Ayers House

Constructed of local bluestone, Ayers House is one of the last remaining
grand 19th century homes that once lined North Terrace. Sir Henry Ayers,
who made his wealth from the Burra Burra Copper Mine, moved with his
family to Ayers House in 1855.
Open: Tues-Fri 10am – 4pm, 1pm –4pm weekends and public holidays.
Beaumont House 631 Glynburn Road, Beaumont, Adelaide

Beaumont was built in 1849 for the first Anglican Bishop of Adelaide,
Augustus Short. The house has a distinctive Mediterranean character with an
open brickwork parapet in soft terracotta colours and a central flat roof
originally accessed by a staircase.

Holdfast Shores Sail Mast Holdfast Bay Shores
Anzac Highway, Glenelg
Soon after the arrival of Governor Hindmarsh aboard HMAS Buffalo on
December 28, 1836 a flagstaff was erected on the first ridge of sand-hills
immediately south of the Patawalonga mouth to signify the command post of
the new British province, later colony, of South Australia. In 1839, a Signal
Mast was erected near this site on the second sand-hill from the sea at the
end of Adelaide Road which is now called Anzac Highway so as to be clearly
visible from another signal mast on West Terrace, Adelaide. Freely
accessible.
Old Highercombe Hotel & Folk Museum

Built in 1853, the Hotel has associations with the early development of
transport routes to the hinterland, the early use of the telegraph and the
development of Tea Tree Gully.
Open: Sun 2–5pm or by appointment. Guided and school tours are available
by prior arrangement.
Sandison Reserve
Heron Way, Hallett Cove
Ancient glacial features, formed during the Permian Ice Age 270 million years
ago, make Hallett Cove one of the most significant geological sites in
Australia. The oldest rocks in the area are of the Precambrian era of 600
million years ago. Excellent walking tracks and a part of Hallett Cove
Conservation Park.
