The Museum features a video presentation tracing the early history of
the Islands and an exhibition which explores Bermuda’s role in the
American Civil War (1861–64). Also houses the Museum shop.

Convict Cemetery, Ireland Island
At the west end of Cochrane Road, off Malabar Road, Ireland Island on
the approach to the RN Dockyard

This cemetery served as a burial ground for convicts who served as
labourers on the British fortifications. Of the 9,000 convicts sent to
Bermuda, 2000 died. There are only 13 marked graves, four named
and nine unnamed. Free entry.

Ferry Reach Military Cemeteries
Ferry Reach Park, St George’s Parish

These British military cemeteries have graves from the yellow fever
epidemic in the 1860’s. The first is a small walled cemetery by the
house at Ferry Point and the second is just off the Railway Trail
overlooking the North Shore.

Idwal Hughes Nature Reserve
Walsingham, Harrington South Road, Hamilton Parish

This 1.25 acres of woodland is part of the larger wilderness area of
Walsingham, also known as “Tom Moore’s Jungle”. The forest and cave
system provide challenging walks and make an adventurous area for
exploring. Access is from the road leading to Tom Moore’s Tavern.
Access to Walsingham may also be gained through Blue Hole Park.

St George’s Military Cemeteries, St George’s Parish
Grenadier Lane and Secretary Road, North Shore, St George’s

These cemeteries were the final resting place of many yellow fever
victims of the 19th century. To the west of Military Cemetery on
Secretary Road is a notable monumental sculpture. The Victoria Cross
winner George Sampson of the Royal Naval Reserve is interred here.
Older military graves are included in the Secretary Road cemeteries.

Tucker House
5 Water St, St George’s

This traditional 18th century Bermuda house was the home of one of
Bermuda’s leading families during the American Revolution and
Napoleonic Wars. Features include portraits, furnishings, porcelain,
silver and an archaeological exhibit (artefacts found on-site).

Royal Naval Cemetery, Ireland Island
Malabar Road, Ireland Island on the approach to the RN Dockyard

Also known as ‘The Glade’, this cemetery holds memorials to Royal
Naval personnel who died of yellow fever during the mid 19th century.
It also records many accidents that occurred to young servicemen in
Bermuda. Free entry.

Somerset Military Cemetery, Somerset
Off Mangrove Bay Road, west of Watford Bridge behind bus stop

This cemetery contains 13 Commonwealth graves from WW1. Among
them are West Indians, Canadians and three Bermudians who died of
accidental injuries in 1915. The cemetery was consecrated in 1903 and
the latest memorial is dated 1918. Free entry.

An early 18th century house set in an English cottage-style country

Unfinished Church
Head of Duke of Kent Street, St George’s

Magnificent Gothic structure started in the 1870’s to replace St Peter’s
Church. Abandoned on the eve of completion it is now a picturesque
ruin. Entry free.


Watford Cemetery, Somerset
On the right of the Royal Naval Dockyard after crossing Watford Bridge
at the end of a footpath from the carpark.

This cemetery contains memorials to soldiers and their families from
1853-1899. There are graves from many different regiments and
convicts were buried from 1849 in unconsecrated ground. There are
also graves from the 1864 yellow fever epidemic. Free entry.
