Avondale, an early pastoral property was established in the 1830s. In 1936, the farm became a research station for the government, for
development of grain varieties, animal husbandry and sustainable farming techniques. Dr Harold Bennets (Veterinary Pathologist for the Department
of Agriculture) used the research station to develop a vaccine for the braxy-like disease in sheep. The farm has living heritage, with farm
machinery, land care centre and animal nursery.

Karalee Rock catchment was one of a number of railway rock catchments built in the 1890s to service steam trains that ran on the Eastern Railway
from Perth to the Goldfields. The impressive stone and metal channels and flume still capture water for the dam. Visitors to
Karalee can enjoy two separate walk trails, a camping ground and picnic area. Karalee Rock Catchment is one of the 25 sites on the Golden

KEP TRACK Mundaring Weir to Northam

Cyclists, walkers and equestrians are invited to enjoy this 75km trail which runs mainly on old rail reserve between Mundaring Weir Hotel and
Northam. Passing from open farmland through to jarrah forests of the Perth Hills, users can choose to be an “end to ender” or just take an hour

KYLIE DAM RESERVE Located North of Bokal East on Arthur Road, midway between Duranillin & Arthur River, Shire of West

Kylie Dam Reserve is a 220 hectare property exhibiting both natural and built heritage. Initially constructed with a water tank between
1914–1917, the dam was used to supply water for steam locomotives on the Wagin – Bowelling line. Later the reserve and dam was used for farming
purposes until 2005. Today it is open for the public to enjoy.

Comprising a farmhouse c1876, and a wayside inn c1889, Mangowine Homestead has long been a place of hospitality. Its setting is a powerful
reminder of each individual’s place in, and relationship to, the environment. Its isolation is emphasised by the simple graves of its builder
Charles Adams and his grandchild.

No 3 Pump Station is one of 25 sites on the Golden Pipeline Heritage Trail and now operates as a comprehensive museum of Cunderdin and
the Wheatbelt. Cunderdin Museum houses one of the State’s best agricultural machinery collections and gives visitors the opportunity to
‘experience’ a quake, a reminder of the devastating earthquake that destroyed nearby Meckering in 1968. For more detailed information follow the

A picnic area and walk trail around the perimeter of No 4 Pump Station provide a welcome stop on the Golden Pipeline Heritage Trail. External
viewing only is possible of the fourth of CY O’Connor’s eight steam stations that pumped water from the Perth Hills to the Goldfields. The
precinct also contains the electric station that replaced the steam station, which has also been replaced by a newer electric station – three

POOLE STREET FOOTBRIDGE Poole St, Northam

The Goldfields Water Supply Scheme was originally laid under the Avon River in Northam. Bad flooding in 1917 caused the pipe to fail and a new
solution was conceived – a timber trestle bridge that carried the pipeline over the water. The pipe now crosses the river on two new bridges.

York was Western Australia’s first inland town and in 1852 work began on the construction of the York Courthouse Complex. From the lofty grandeur
of the court room to the stark confines of the prison cells, it tells the intriguing story of country policing and law enforcement from the days
of the first convicts to the late twentieth century. At the rear of the site is the 1903 Lockup Keeper’s and 1910 Sergeant’s Quarters which are
