Auburn Old Police Station & Courthouse Museum

The Old Police Station and Courthouse were completed in 1860 and later
extended. A variety of stone was used in the construction of the buildings, as well as handsawn Redgum and three different types of paving; flat
slate paving, pitch paving and cobble work. Devonshire teas and lunch available.
Open: Thurs-Sun 10am-5pm. Daily school holidays and public holidays.
Bon Accord Cottage
Morehead Street, Burra
The cottage is the original Mine Manager’s residence of the Bon Accord Mine Complex. Built in 1859, this heritage-listed cottage provides bed
and
breakfast accommodation. Please phone the Burra Visitors Centre for details.

Burra Mine Site Located within Burra, access via main entrance off Market Street

The site protects natural heritage and mining heritage and is a record of the original vegetation of the mid-north. More than 120 species of
native plants, 37 which are listed as rare or endangered, are protected here. The hills conserve native grasslands. The site has several
buildings and structures used when the “Monster Mine”, a working copper mine was active. These include Peacocks Chimney Stack and Morphetts
Engine House.

Burra Miner’s Dugouts Blyth Street, Burra
Around 600 dugouts were excavated in the banks of the Burra Creek
between 1846 and 1851, to provide accommodation for an estimated
population of 1800. This was over 40% of the population of what was then the seventh largest settlement in Australia.

Burra Police Lock-up & Stables
Helston Street, Burra
Erected at the rear of the first police station in 1847, the cells were used as a temporary Gaol until Redruth Gaol was built in 1856 with
additional cells, stables and yard added in 1873. Dedicated to the National Trust in 1976, it is part of the Burra Heritage Trail.

The Burra Visitor Centre welcomes all of its visitors with a wealth of
information including assistance with a diverse range of attractions,
accommodation and tours. The Base Burra Heritage Passport can be
purchased from the centre that self-guided visitors on an 11km trail around the town visiting 47 historic sites. A key and guidebook enables
visitors to unlock the past in greater depth and enter 8 locked sites, including National Trust sites. Additionally, the Burra Visitor Centre
offers a wide range of souvenirs for sale.

Clare Old Police Station and Courthouse Museum

Built in 1850 and located about one kilometre from the town centre, the
building housed police troopers and dispensed justice until the late 1870s.

Built in 1885, the old Railway Station is now a National Trust museum, which features the history of Bundaleer Forest. The collection includes an
iron lung and humidicrib.

Kotz Cottage Located in the township of Burra

Kotz Cottage is a stone cottage that was built in stages prior to 1872. Its
layered state of decay illustrates low-cost construction techniques. The
layout of buildings and structures within the site demonstrates the
requirements of agricultural settlement.

Malowen Lowarth Cottage 11 Paxton Square Cottages, Kingston Street, Burra
This cottage, furnished with authentic 1860s artefacts, has a garden to suit the era. A guide takes visitors through the cottage and describes
life in Burra during the early copper mining days.

Market Square Museum

The Museum is a re-creation of an old style general store, post office and
family home at the turn of the century.

Peacock’s Chimney Stack Blythe Street (Barrier Highway), Burra
The stack was used during the prosperous years of the copper mines.
Peacock's Chimney Stack was resited in 1971, following an appeal by the
National Trust of South Australia.

Port Pirie Railway Station & Customs House

The Railway Station, built in a striking Victorian Pavilion style in 1902, and former Customs House form part of the Port Pirie Historic and Folk
Museum. Features include the narrow gauge steam-shunting engine Port Pirie and Diprotodon bones found in the area.

Redruth Gaol Tregory Street, Burra
Redruth Gaol was erected in 1856 and was the first gaol in South Australia outside of Adelaide. The Gaol was closed in 1894 and prisoners
transferred to Gladstone Gaol. In 1897, the Gaol was restored and reopened as a Girls Reformatory but closed in 1922. The Gaol is famous for the
filming of the 1979 movie "Breaker Morant".

Sampson’s Cottage
