Constructed in 1886 when Borroloola was a significant river port and drovers’ camp. The property was a Police Station for over 50 years.

Hartley Street School

Hartley Street School has great social significance as the first official school in Alice Springs. The Roundhouse, a specially designed extension built in 1945 to cope with the extremes of climate, is actually octagonal!

Jones Store

One of the oldest surviving structures in Newcastle Waters. The store sold provisions to droving plants that moved cattle over the Murranji, Barkly and North-South stock routes.

Katherine Railway Station

Built in 1926, the station serviced the extension of the railway from Pine Creek to Katherine. During World War II Katherine became the headquarters of the North Australian Railway. The building houses an interesting display on railway history.

Myilly Point Heritage Precinct
Burnett Place, Darwin

The precinct contains four houses built for high-ranking public servants during the late 1930s. The houses were designed by then Government architect, BCG (Beni) Burnett, and demonstrate passive cooling in tropical houses, with large banks of louvre windows, high ceilings and lots of airflow. The houses are:

Set in a large tropical garden and is not open to the public.

Burnett House (4 Burnett Place) (08) 89 810165
Burnett House is open to the public all year. Refreshments are available. High Tea every Sunday on the lawns is a popular event. Open: 10am–1pm, Mon–Sat. High Tea 3.30pm–6pm Sunday.

Audit House (2 Burnett Place)
Audit House is a private residence set in a dense tropical palm garden and is not open to the public.

O’Keeffe House
Riverbank Drive, Katherine

Originally constructed as an Officers’ Mess in 1942, the House is a classic example of bush technology utilising bush timber, corrugated iron and flywire.

Pine Creek Railway Precinct

The Precinct, built 1888/89, includes the former Railway Station, railway employee residence, goods shed, yards and lines, and a water tank.

The Museum is located in the former Pine Creek Repeater Station. Originally built in 1888/89 at Burrundie and later transported to Pine Creek, the Repeater Station was a military communications centre during
World War II.

Stuart Town Gaol

Built in 1907-8 this building served as the town’s gaol until 1938.

Timber Creek 1908 Police Station
Turn off the Victoria Highway behind current
Police Station.
Open: 10–12 Mon–Fri May–Sept.

When serving as the police station it was the focal point of the Timber Creek local and pastoral community, being the centre of Administration for the Victoria River Region. The building was restored in 1987/88 and is now a rare survivor of the early Northern Territory police station architecture and construction.

Tuxworth Fullwood House Museum

This former outpatients department was originally constructed by the Australian Military force as 55 Army Camp Hospital in 1942. It served as an outpatients clinic for the Tennant Creek Hospital until 1978. It now houses the extensive Tuxworth-Fullwood collection of historical materials. It is one of the few remaining World War 11 military structures in the Tennant Creek district.
