Access to the reserve is from the public walkway along Lake
Wanaka. The protected Kanuka (tea tree) grow here and there is a
stand behind the gate. There are views of Mt Alpha and Roys Peak
in the background.

Bowman's Bush Southland
Signposted on Ruru Road, off Dunns Road at Otatara, 7km west of
Invercargill.
10-minute walk through 500-year-old native podocarp forest - a
once-widespread forest type that has largely disappeared in the
lowlands of the region.

Bushy Point Educational Area Southland
Located on the New River Estuary, 8km from Invercargill, Southland
region, South Island.

A 0.6km boardwalk and walking track through diverse salt marsh,
swamp shrubland and tall native swamp forest. The area is privately
owned and protected under a QEII National Trust covenant. It is
part of an internationally important wetland and is habitat to
threatened plants and the scarce South Island fernbird. On-site
visitor interpretation and guided tours. Visits by prior arrangement
only.
Clay Cliffs Mackenzie Basin
Located on the northern bank of the Ahuriri River, 10km west of
Omarama on the fringe of the Mackenzie Country.
An unusual geological formation of spectacular 'badlands' eroded
pinnacles and gulches. The Clay Cliffs are also an important
backdrop to the local high country landscape - a wide braided river
valley covered mainly in tussock grassland.
John Anderson Aboretum

This privately owned 6 hectare arboretum was established by the
late forester and naturalist John Anderson. There is a walking trail
throught the collection of over 260 species of North America,
European and Chinese conifers.
Jolendale Park Central Otago
Carpark at top of Aronui Road, off State Highway 8, 2km southwest
of Alexandra township.
Woodland arboretum of tree species from around the world adapted
to semi-arid conditions. Heritage interest also from former mining
activities. Pleasant walking opportunities. Privately-owned and
protected in perpetuity under a QEII National Trust covenant.
Omahu Bush and Gibraltar Rock Port Hills, Christchurch
Drive up Dyers Pass Road to the Sign of the Kiwi, turn south along
Summit Road for 8.5km to carpark at Omahu Bush.
Omahu Bush has a diverse range of native trees and dense groves
of kanuka cover the lower areas. These covenants protect a
combination of geological features, birdlife and native vegetation for
the public.
Sinclair Wetland Otago
Between Lakes Waihola and Waipori. Turn off State Highway 1 at
signpost 33km south of Dunedin and follow the signs.
A 315-hectare wetland and important bird habitat. Walking tracks,
information centre and accommodation facilities. In private
ownership and protected under a QEII National Trust covenant.

The 5.6 hectare property is devoted to native plant conservation
and has a Threatened Plant Garden of over 70 plants threatened
with extinction. The QEII covenant protects 3 hectares of mature
podocarp forest with a buffer area where native bush and recreated
wetland areas are being restored.

Takaka Hill Walkway
Starts from a sign -posted carpark at the side of State Highway 60
near the summit of Takaka Hill, between Nelson and Golden Bay.
A 2-3 hour walk on the summit of Takaka Hill, an area noted for its
unusual elevated landscape including spectacular marble karst rock
formations, native flora and fauna, and habitat of a giant
carnivorous snail. The walkway leads through 152 hectares of
protected private land, which is protected in perpetuity under a QEII
National Trust covenant. Panoramic views over the Nelson region
and Kahurangi National Park in clear weather.

owned and contains an area of primary coastal forest protected with
a convenant. There are beautiful walking tracks, beaches, kayaking,
